Getting Started

Beginners learn how to hold and tune the guitar, place the fretting fingers cleanly, use a pick or fingers, and maintain a steady strum. Simple chord shapes, easy riffs, and short melodies develop coordination. Chord charts and tablature can offer an accessible entry point, with standard notation introduced when it serves the student’s path.

Expanding the Fretboard

Progression may include smoother chord transitions, barre chords, scales, alternate picking, fingerstyle patterns, bends, articulation, rhythm guitar vocabulary, and theory mapped directly onto the fretboard. Students learn how common progressions work, how to build or vary a part, and how to improvise within a song’s harmony.

Practice and Performance

Focused practice between lessons might rotate among a chord change, one rhythmic groove, a short riff, and a section of a song. Reasonable access to the chosen guitar helps maintain hand comfort and tuning habits. Lessons can support band or ensemble playing, school performances, recitals, auditions, music exams, songwriting, recording projects, or a personal list of songs the student wants to play with confidence.
