A calm start is a good start
The first music lesson is an introduction, not a test. Teachers use the time to learn about the student, explore the instrument, and notice how the student responds to rhythm, listening, movement, or simple musical patterns.
Before the lesson
Bring any music or learning materials the school or teacher has requested.
Share previous experience, favorite music, and any specific goals or concerns.
Arrive with enough time to settle in without making the student feel rushed.
Beginners do not need to prepare a piece in advance. Comfortable clothing, curiosity, and a willingness to try are enough. After the lesson, the teacher can suggest an appropriate course, lesson length, and next step.
